Brakes

Your brakes are arguably the most important safety component of your vehicle. They are responsible for stopping your vehicle, and their proper functioning is crucial to prevent accidents. Your brakes are checked during an MOT test, however the lifespan of your brakes can be impacted by external factors such as weather and road conditions. Vehicle brakes are made up of multiple components, all with different lifespans, but it is recommended to have your brakes checked at least once a year or at least every 30,000 miles.

Regular maintenance and inspections are essential to ensure that your brakes are always in top condition. Have them checked today with our expert team and ensure your safety.

What's involved

We ensure your vehicle's brakes are in optimal condition for a safe and smooth ride.
Replacing your brakes typically involves the following steps: *

Jacking the car: The car is lifted using a jack and secured with jack stands to safely access the brakes

Removing the wheel: The wheel is removed to expose the brake components

Removing the brake caliper: The caliper, which houses the brake pads, is removed

Removing the old brake pads: The worn-out brake pads are taken out

Inspecting the brake disc: The brake disc is checked for wear, damage, or excessive heat damage

Replacing the brake disc (if necessary): If the disc is worn or damaged, it is replaced with a new one

Installing new brake pads: New brake pads are inserted into the caliper

Compressing the brake caliper piston: The brake caliper piston is compressed to make room for the new brake pads

Reassembling the brake caliper: The caliper is reattached to the brake disc and secured

Reinstalling the wheel: The wheel is put back on and tightened securely

Checking brake fluid level: The brake fluid level is checked for contamination, its boiling point and more. Then it's topped up if necessary

Testing the brakes: The car is lowered, and the brakes are tested to ensure proper function

Brakes Disposal: We dispose of your brakes and any other components in an environmentally friendly manner, complying with all local regulations

*All vehicle brakes and their condition are varied, so do keep in mind more or less steps may be involved

Brakes: What to look out for?

Your brakes may be damaged for a number of reason. But here are some common signs that your brakes may be in need of an urgent repair/replacement:

Squeaking or squealing noises: This often indicates worn brake pads

Grinding noise: This is a more serious sign and could mean metal-on-metal contact, which can damage the brake discs

Spongy brake pedal: A soft or spongy brake pedal can indicate low brake fluid or a problem with the brake system

Vibrating brake pedal: This could be a sign of warped brake discs

Increased stopping distance: If your car takes longer to stop than usual, it could be a sign of worn brake pads or other brake issues

Pulling to one side when braking: This might indicate uneven brake pad wear or a problem with the brake calipers

Brake warning light on the dashboard: This is a clear indication of a potential brake problem and should be addressed immediately
